Michael Leunig was born in Melbourne in 1945. One of Australia’s most beloved and distinctive cultural voices, he has spent five decades producing cartoons, drawings, and writings of gentle philosophical wit and profound emotional intelligence for publications including The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald. His imagery — wandering figures, ducks, teapots, and souls adrift in a vast and bewildering universe — has become part of the fabric of Australian cultural life. He was named one of Australia’s Living National Treasures in 1999.
